On 2nd September the Manawatu ps of 93 tons left Wellington for Wanganui with 80 Immigrants ex Euterpe and did the same trip leaving on 9th September with 63 immigrants ex Euterpe. Those without a job were lodged in the Depot at Taupo Quay so it was probably from there that Thomas pushed his wheelbarrow

The following is an extract from a letter by Lillian Barry to American historian Harold Huycke, recalling the voyage of 1874:

156 Marine Parade
Napier [New Zealand]
May 10th, 1948
Dear Sir:
In response to your invitation in the Southern Cross for any information regarding the sailing Ship Euterpe: I came from England to New Zealand in that Ship as a child with my parents, leaving England on April 4th, 1874 & arriving at Wanganui N.Z. about August 14th of the same year.1

1 According to a history of the Abbiss family, who also emigrated on the voyage of 1874 the ship docked at Wellington. This agrees with company records, which state that the ship arrived at Wellington on August 30th after a passage of 127 days, port to port. However, the Abbisses believe that some passengers went
went on to Wanganui. Among these could have been Lillian and her family.).
